Z Modular, a Chicago-based construction company, held its first-ever stacking events Tuesday and Wednesday at Cheatham Street Flats.
The company uses prefabricated modules to build the apartment complex. Each unit is stacked on each other and connected using Z Modular’s “revolutionary” VectorBloc, which is a steel modular connection system that forms strong frameworks that can be built taller and is more cost efficient, according to the company.
“Z Modular modules, including façades, are 95 percent completed in factory. This enables us to ensure quality control and stay on time or ahead of timelines,”said Richard Rozycki, senior vice president of Z Modular in a press release. “We’re excited to show our work in our first-ever stacking event May 7 and 8.”
Each module is pre-made and can be combined to create multiple sizes and styles of apartments.
Tuesday’s event at Cheatham Street Flats featured a tour of the construction site and viewing of the modular-stacking process.
The project at 401 South Guadalupe St. is a $15.5 million, 198,946 gross sq. ft. of mixed-use space project. The apartment complex will be five stories with 143 furnished apartments. The building will feature an underground parking garage with 173 spaces. On the lower level is space for coffee shops and restaurants.
Construction is expected to be completed in the summer with the apartments opening in August.
