San Marcos held its end-of-season awards banquet on Saturday, honoring its players for the 2018-19 season in which the Lady Rattlers finished 20-17 overall and 4-10 in district play.
Sophomore forward Faith Phillips was named to the 26-6A All-District first team. Junior wing Miranda Lamb and junior center Grace Latham were both selected to the All-District second team. Freshman guard Vivian Hernandez was an All-District honorable mention.
Nine players made the Academic All-District team in senior forward Andrea Flores, senior guard JoAnna Galvan, Lamb, Latham, freshman forward Mercedes Layton, senior guard Abby Pena, Phillips, freshman guard Angelina Sotelo and freshman forward Chelsea Williams. Galvan made Texas Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State, Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Academic All-State, and was an honorable mention for Texas High School Coaches Associate Academic All-State.
The team also handed out in-house laurels to its players. Phillips was honored as San Marcos’ Offensive Player of the Year, leading the team in points, rebounds and free throw percentage. Latham was named the Lady Rattlers’ MVP. Hernandez was selected as Defensive Player of the Year and took awards for most 3-pointers and assists. Sotelo received the Sixth Man of the Year plaudit. Lamb was given the Fighting Heart Award.
Galvan and Pena each received Lady Rattler Pride awards, and were also given recognition for being selected to the Hill Country Chicken Express All-Star Game.
San Marcos will return nine players to the varsity roster next season.
