Two rounds into the 2019 NCAA Auburn Regional at the Saugahatchee Country Club, Texas State senior Anne-Charlotte Mora was tied for fifth place at 1-under par.
Mora began the regional on the back nine on Monday, finishing even-par. The Nantes, France native used birdies on holes five and 17 to recover from two bogeys on 10 and 18. She parred the final four holes of the round to remain even through the day.
The senior struggled on hole No. 15 Tuesday, tapping in her first double bogey of the tournament. But the senior managed to double her birdie count from round one to bounce back. After bogeying hole No. 10 the day before, Mora dropped in a midrange putt in the same spot to drop to 1-under and move into the top five of the standings.
“Another solid day of managing herself around this challenging golf course," Bobcat head coach Lisa Strom said. "She did a great job of moving on from one hiccup on No. 15 and finished like a Bobcat! She did a great job of trusting her club selection all afternoon and our reads on the green.”
Mora entered round three on Wednesday three strokes behind first place. The top six schools and top three individuals not affiliated with those teams advance to the NCAA finals at The Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas on May 17-22.
“Today was fun," Mora said. "I managed to bounce back from my misstep on No. 15. I felt as though my approach shots were better than the first round and I will look to improve again tomorrow. My coaches have been so helpful this week. (Assistant coach Jenny) Gleason has been with me on the fairways and Coach Strom has helped me on the greens. It has been a great combination.”
The third round of the NCAA Auburn Regional ended after press time.
