On Thursday, April 25th Hopkins St. (SH 80)was closed off from about 4 to 4:50 pm because of a stopped train. I'm not sure how this is legal but next time anyone is stuck in this situation take the opportunity to call Union Pacific Railroad at 888-870-8777 and press #1 for emergency. For a report they need to know city, state, major cross street and track number. On Hopkins St (SH 80) track 1 crosses at the river, track 2 is near I 35 and interconnecting track 3 is by HEB.The representatives are friendly and can usually tell you what the problem is. If enough people call maybe they'll get the message that a stalled train in the middle of town is more than just an inconvenience it is a real safety issue.
