Local baseball and softball players rack up multiple postseason awards

Both San Marcos High School and San Marcos Academy racked up All-District and All-State awards this month as a number of baseball and softball players were honored for their efforts during the 2023 season.

It was a historic season for the Rattlers Baseball team as San Marcos. Not only did they capture their first district championship in years, which included sweeping district rival New Braunfels, but they also won the Bi-District Championship over San Antonio Churchill in a thrilling three game series.

For the Rattlers, junior Kutter Gage Webb was named 2nd Team All State Shortstop by the Texas High School Coaches Association.

For the Bears, Maynard Sowell was named to the 1st Team All State and Jack Tinsley was named 2nd Team All State by the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools.

This follows a historic season for SMA which saw the Bears capture the district championship in a three way tie and host their first playoff game in over 20 years.

Webb was also one of 10 Rattlers to earn all-district honors.

Webb was named District 27 MVP, while senior outfielder and pitcher Reagan Chomel was named Co-Utility Player of the Year.

Senior pitchers Gavin Gomez and Tito Santos were named 1st Team All District Pitchers.

Senior first baseman Stephen Wilder and senior outfielder Major Pillien were also named to 1st Team All District for their work as position players. Both also contributed from the mound the season.

In the 2nd Team All District Selections, outfielder Ryan Hix nabbed a spot while second baseman Dallas Calderon was named 2nd Team utility player.

Rounding up the all district selections was the duo of third baseman Dylan Nunez and catcher Sunray Estrada who made Honorable Mention.

Though the San Marcos softball team had their struggles this season due to a slew of injuries, it didn’t stop the Rattlers from nabbing several all-district selections.

Jessica DeLeon was the lone 1st Team All District selection for San Marcos, who held it down behind the plate for the Rattlers.

Outfielder Eliza Lozano and shortstop Ava Serana earned 2nd Team All District Honors.

Earning Honorable Mention was the trio of pitcher Adelaida Sierra, first baseman Angelina Alvarez and third baseman Brycelyn Pinales.

A little further down Ranch Road 12, the SMA Bears baseball team , along with Sowell and Tinsley, had a number of players make All-District honors Earning 1st Team All District was Sowell, Tinsley, Nick Graham, Parrish Facciponte and Jett Clayton.

Cash Miller, Isaiah Quintanilla and Paul Parash earned 2nd Team All District for SMA.

From the pitching mound to the pitching circle, the SMA Lady Bears softball team also had a slew of players earn All District honors with six.

It was a wild season for the Lady Bears, which included a thrilling 4136 win over Round Rock Concordia.

Hope Benton was named 1st Team All District while Chloe Crawford and Lizzy Scull were named to 2nd Team All District Team.

Rounding up the All-District selections is the trio of Emma Scull, Faith Guenther and Grace Guenther.
