After batting .438 across four games last week, Texas State junior Will Hollis was named Sun Belt Community Coffee Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Hollis began the week hitting two home runs out of Bobcat Ballpark for three RBIs in a 7-6 win over Texas on April 23. The McKinney native then went 3-for-6 in Texas State’s series opener at Louisiana, fueling his team to a 13-9 victory. In total, Hollis hit 7-for-16 for eight RBIs, five runs scored, four walks, two doubles and just one strikeout.
The junior is now batting .329 for the season, third on the team. After Tuesday’s 8-5 loss to UTSA, Hollis now has a hit in each of the past five games and an on-base streak of six. Hollis is one of four players hitting above .300 for the Bobcats.
The outfielder is the third Texas State player to receive a conference weekly award this season. Senior right-handed pitcher Connor Reich (Feb. 19) and junior righty Nick Fraze (March 5) both received Pitcher of the Week laurels this year. Hollis is the first hitter to be honored for the team since Jaylen Hubbard was chosen on April 17, 2017.
