The Art Squared Arts Market returns for 2023 in Downtown San Marcos on the historic courthouse lawn. Since 2012, artists and artisans of all kinds convene in the heart of San Marcos to showcase and sell their works, reflecting the unique community that makes San Marcos so special. This year, Art Squared welcomes a new market director, Karly Schlievert, who is a local artist herself and has a passion for cultivating her local art community.
“I’m excited to be a part of this wonderful market full of talented makers and artists and am honored to be able to help the market continue to grow,” Schlievert said. “Art Squared really reflects the vibe of the San Marcos community. I’ve attended many other fine arts markets, and they can sometimes feel too formal or closed-off. There’s a fine line of curating quality, original artworks and keeping a friendly, welcoming, fun and funky vibe. And I think Art Squared walks that line perfectly.”
Schlievert was also welcomed to the San Marcos Art League board in 2022 and has contributed to several Art League events and projects. “The biggest and best addition to this year’s market season will be our new Member’s Booth that will debut during the Fall markets. Art League members will, for the first time, be able to exchange a few hours of volunteering at the market for a chance to sell their artwork. This is perfect for our members who don’t necessarily have a large amount of rotating inventory to be able to run their own booth or have a spot at the Art Center, but want the chance and experience of selling their work at our market,” Schlievert said.
Other new additions to the 2023 Art Squared markets include year-round art supply swaps. After previously having only three a year, art supply swaps will now take place year round at every Art Squared Arts Market from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Schlievert also expressed excitement at getting to work with Art Squared music director, Tracy Weinberg, to expand the selection of local musicians that are featured at each market from 1 - 3 p.m.
Art Squared takes place every second Saturday, March through December, with two bonus holiday markets in November and December. Dates, location, vendor applications and other information can be found at artsquaredmarket.com.
