Hays County officers arrested a 20-year-old man for a sexual assault that was reported on the Texas State University campus nearly a year ago.
In an affidavit of probable cause for arrest, Texas State University Police Officer Dennis Gibson wrote that King Ngozi Nwaozuru was identified as the suspect in a sexual assault reported on Jan. 20, 2018.
“A survivor with a pseudonym of Jane reported that while under the influence of alcohol a known male took her to his dorm room and removed her clothing,” the affidavit reads. The survivor also reported that the male bit her, even after she asked him to stop, and that he was holding her legs open and would not let her pull away. She tried to pull away again and told him “wait” and “no” repeatedly, the affidavit says, but he penetrated her. Gibson wrote in the affidavit that “Jane” produced a text message from the male in which he apologized and said he knew better.
“And I’m not gonna use that it was the moment excuse. But please believe me I wasn’t tryna take advantage of u and I let temptation get the best of me,” the text reads in part. The text also reads, “I care for you and I should have controlled my self. Again I’m sorry and I mean it. I won’t contact you or anything until u say it’s ok to.”
“The male was identified as King Nwaozuru 10-27-1998,” Gibson wrote in the affidavit, adding that he tried to interview Nwaozuru but Nwauzuru’s lawyer declined the interview.
Nwaozuru was arrested Jan. 8 and released the same day on a $75,000 surety bond.
The Daily Record has reached out to the University Police Department for more information about the incident and why an arrest was not made sooner, but had not received a response by press time.
