Texas State took home three first-place finishes and five top-10 Sun Belt marks over the weekend in Baton Rouge, La. at the LSU Alumni Gold track meet.
Kyle Denomme earned a victory in the men’s 800 meters. The senior clocked in at 1:51.26, a personal record and the No. 2 time in the conference. Senior thrower T’Mond Johnson also took gold, shot putting for 19.24 meters, tying for the seventh-best toss in school history. Sophomore Noah Herring also registered a win for the Bobcats with a windless, season-best, 15.01-meter triple jump.
The women’s team put in a few impressive performances as well. Senior thrower Melanie Rusch placed seventh in the hammer throw, launching for 52.08 meters. The distance is a new record for Rusch and also ranks No. 9 in the Sun Belt this year. Junior sprinter Breonna Hall rose to No. 7 in the league with 56.81-second 400-meter dash.
The team will conclude the regular season when it hosts the Bobcat Classic on Friday and Saturday at the Bobcat Track & Field Complex. It’ll be Texas State’s final chance to add to its 27 top-10 Sun Belt marks before competing in the conference meet May 10-12 in Jonesboro, Ark.
