Downtown parking to get another discussion

Downtown parking to get another discussion

Downtown parking returns to the San Marcos City Council for a discussion during the council’s work session this afternoon.

Council will receive a staff presentation on the Parking Management Program and the implementation of on-street paid parking. Among the issues covered in the staff presentation are providing employee parking (including the implementation for 8- to 10-hour parking zones), enforcement, community outreach and the establishment of parking benefit zones. According to the presentation, council is set to consider the parking program on May 7.

Council will then go into executive session to discuss several items, including the appointee review process for the city manager, city attorney and city clerk. Council will also receive a staff briefing and deliberate regarding the extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) dispute between San Marcos and Martindale. A portion of the land destined for the SMART (San Marcos Air, Rail and Truck) Terminal lies within Martindale’s ETJ. The cities have been in discussions to come to an agreement over the issue. Last week at a special meeting, the Martindale City Council approved a letter regarding the ETJ issue, but the details of the letter have not yet been made public.

Council will meet at 3 p.m. Tuesday in council chambers.
