Steve Beebe set to speak at Rotary Club about C.S. Lewis, Communication

Dr. Steven Beebe will speak to the Rotary Club of San Marcos about his new book about author C.S. Lewis on Wednesday.

Beebe’s book, titled “C.S. Lewis and the Craft of Communication” is a comprehensive review of Lewis’s work revealing five communication principles that explain his success as a communicator.

Lewis is famous among children for his “Chronicles of Narnia” series, but he is also well known as a Christian writer of such books as “Mere Christianity” and “Miracles.”

Beebe draws on Lewis’s advice about communication in his books, essays, and letters. Lewis believed a skilled communicator must be holistic, intentional, transpositional, evocative, and audience centered. The acronym HI TEA memorably summarizes these five principles. Lewis taught at Oxford University in England and Beebe has spent years researching Lewis’ life and work there.

Beebe was chair of the Department of Communication Studies Texas State University for many years. He is a past president of the National Communication Association. He has written more than a dozen books about communication.

Rotary meets Wednesdays at the Holiday Inn and Conference Center at 105 Bintu Dr., San Marcos. Visitors are always welcome. Rotary is nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious. The San Marcos club is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
