Bobcats set to host Trojans

Bobcats set to host Trojans

Texas State had no plans on resting on its 14-1 victory over UTSA on Tuesday.

Following the Bobcats’ win over their rival, head coach Ty Harrington made it clear that they’d keep working during practice as they prepare to host Troy in a three-game series.

“We’re going to have a hard practice (Wednesday),” Harrington said on Tuesday. “It won’t be an easy practice (on Wednesday). What I mean by that is it’ll be time consuming and it’ll be effortable. When you come out of a win like this, you always think, ‘Well tomorrow we’ll just go out there and go through it.’ But that’s not going to be the case. We’ll get after it (Wednesday) in practice. That’s what hopefully keeps that keyed in.”

Junior outfielder Will Hollis, who drove in four RBIs against the Roadrunners, said the Bobcats won’t dwell on Tuesday’s performance and will move onto the next game.

“Just not try to think about (Tuesday),” Hollis said. “Just think about the next one, every at bat, every pitch just try to win it every single day.”

Texas State (19-10, 6-3 Sun Belt) begins its weekend series against Troy (14-14, 3-6) earlier than originally scheduled. The Bobcats will host a doubleheader on Friday due to expected inclement weather on Saturday. Friday’s doubleheader begins at 3:30 p.m. inside Bobcat Ballpark. The series finale is currently scheduled for Sunday at 11:30 a.m. but could also be moved due to weather on Sunday.

The Trojans come to San Marcos having won four of their last five games. Sophomore outfielder Rigsby Mosley leads Troy with a .356 batting average, which is No. 6 in the Sun Belt. He has recorded 11 doubles and 10 RBIs. Junior outfielder Dalton Sinquefield holds a .348 batting average, which ranks No. 8 in the conference. He’s tallied 17 RBIs and six doubles.

Troy redshirt junior right-handed pitcher Cory Gill (2-1, 5.19 ERA) is set to start in the opening game of the series against Texas State junior righty Nick Fraze (4-2, 5.18 ERA).

Bobcat redshirt sophomore right-hand pitcher Hunter McMahon (4-2, 2.93 ERA) is expected to take on Troy sophomore righty Levi Thomas (3-2, 5.13 ERA) in game two of the doubleheader.

Texas State senior pitcher Connor Reich (4-1, 2.30 ERA) is set to start the series finale, while Troy hasn’t set a starter.

The Bobcats look to keep pace in the Sun Belt as they enter the weekend in third place in the Sun Belt west division and in fifth place overall.
