Two people have been arrested in connection with the burglary of a downtown business Sunday; however, one remains at large.
It occurred around 2:30 a.m. when a SMPD officer on patrol “observed a subject walking out of the alley next to a business in the 200 block of University Drive,” police said in an email in response to a Daily Record request for more information on the incident.
Then, the officer noticed that the side door to the building was open.
A person later identified as 19-year-old Joseph King of San Antonio was seen by police running down University Drive. The officer that spotted him gave his description to police dispatchers who relayed it to other patrol officers, who made the arrest. Police also saw a person later identified as Quinn Pugh, 19, of San Marcos and a “third unknown suspect” running from the alleyway.
“After a short pursuit Pugh was detained near Taco Bell and admitted to breaking into the business with King,” the email said.
Pugh and King were both taken to Hays County Jail. Pugh was booked in and out on Sunday after posting a $5,000 bond and King was released Monday on a bond of the same amount.
As for the third subject, police said in the email he “was observed but no clear description was obtained.”
Police did not say which business was illegally entered or if anything was taken, and the Daily Record was not allowed to speak directly to police regarding the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to call the SMPD’s Criminal Investigations Division at 512-753-2300.
