The National Weather Service has issued a winter Weather advisory for Hays County as temperatures continue to drop and precipitation enters the area.
The winter weather advisory went into effect Wednesday at noon and lasts until Thursday at 12 p.m. NWS stated freezing rain is expected with ice accumulations of a light glaze on elevated surfaces with bridges, overpasses and elevated walkways becoming “very slippery.”
NWS added that the winter weather conditions could impact evening or morning commutes.
Winter storm shelter activated
With temperatures nearing freezing overnight, Southside Community Center will open its emergency shelter for the week, Homeless Coalition of Hays County announced.
Southside is located at 518 South Guadalupe St. in San Marcos.
