Agnes Ilene Dunning Dunn, 84, passed away quietly on Sunday morning, October 24, 2021. Agnes battled cancer, but never let it break her spirit nor dampen her sense of humor. She remained positive and full of hope until her final days and will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved her.
Agnes was a long-time resident of San Marcos, Texas but spent her early years in the Rio Grande Valley and then in Corpus Christi. She taught first and second grades at Flour Bluff Independent School District for 30 years and was beloved by the children she taught as well as her colleagues at school.
Agnes is preceded in death by her husband Fred S. Dunn; her brothers Wayne Howard Dunning, Paul Russel Dunning, Orville Lee Dunning and Willis Gene Dunning; and her parents Lester Earl and Clara Lingle Dunning.
Survivors include her children James R. “Beau” Howard, Penelope E. “Penny” Howard and Melanie J. Howard Morris. Her grandchildren are Michelle L. “Shelley” Crisp (Mark), Alexis L. Howard-Pappas (Walter), Jon R. Howard, Bryce J. Ferguson, John T. Jack Kimble, Dan H. Kimble, Elizabeth G. Kimble, Jordan L. Morris Arver (Tyler), Davin D. Morris (Nicole), along with great-grandchildren Lucas Crisp and Olivia Robicheaux. She is also survived by her stepchildren F. Stanley Mahasukh Dunn, Sylvia L. Dunn Workman, Philip L. Dunn (Robin), and Charles G. Dunn (Autumn). Agnes’ stepgrandchildren are Nichole and Austin Workman, Joseph Dunn, Christine Ralph and Jessica Prince. She also leaves behind very special nieces Angela Cates and Tina Billington, Carol Wallin and Ruth Ann Dunning, Susan Corbin, Donna Whittenburg, Barbara Henslee and Nan Barry.
Memorial donations can be made to The American Cancer Society, St. Jude Research Hospital for Children, or Muttstrut.org for the San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter.
A memorial service will take place at Thomason Funeral Home chapel in San Marcos on Friday, November 12 at 2 p.m., followed by an informal gathering for refreshments and the scattering of ashes under the live oak trees at her home.
