Eric Joel Beeson, 42, of Sterling Heights, MI passed away on Friday, October 29, 2021, at Beaumont Hospital, Troy after a valiant battle with COVID-19.

Eric was born on July 10, 1979 in Irving, Texas and grew up in the San Marcos area. He graduated magna cum laude from Texas State University in 2003 with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He received his master’s degree in computer science and information systems from the University of Michigan in 2014. He worked as a software engineer, specializing in system design and architecture. He was extremely talented at his craft and took great pride in his work.

In 2006, Eric married the love of his life, Rebekah, and they recently celebrated 15 years of marriage together.

Eric was a wealth of knowledge in numerous subjects including politics, history, and the study of Meyers-Briggs personalities. Whatever subject he studied, he mastered. He was extremely creative and loved strategy-based games. He re-designed games just to improve them, and created many of his own. He also had a passion for statistics, fantasy baseball, and creating intricate and indepth excel spreadsheets.

He was known for his hilarious, dry sense of humor, and was always ready with a sharp, witty remark. He enjoyed comedy movies, prank shows and the TV show The Office. He had a heart for animals, especially his cats, and he loved feeding the birds and squirrels in his backyard that he playfully referred to as “creatures.”

He had a variety of interests including kayaking, swimming, football, attending the theater with his wife, exploring cuisines from around the world, and playing the sport of curling with his wife and fatherin-law. He loved traveling, with highlights being his honeymoon in Hawaii, road trips to visit family in Texas, trips to Disney World with his nieces, visiting friends in Florida, a road trip vacation from New York to Massachusetts, and attending Dallas Cowboys football games in various states.

Eric was extremely knowledgable about the Bible, and he loved Jesus. His love for God was reflected in his gentle spirit and his willingness to share the gospel with others.

He is survived by his wife, Rebekah (Gilroy); parents, Tom and Frances Mayfield; sister, April Beeson; brother, Jonathan Beeson (Brianne Smith); step brother, Justin Wetz (Marlo and daughter Emily); his nieces and nephews, Jim, Aaron, Adam, Grace, Magen, Blaze, Walker and Jesse; his in-laws, Jim and Ann Gilroy and Shawn and Wendy (Gilroy) Duke; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Radford Beeson; sister, Sonia Seiwert (Beeson); grandparents, Jim and Maryan Beeson and Bobby and Sheila Wood.

A memorial visitation will be held at the Sterling Heights Chapel of Mandziuk and Son Funeral Directors on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 2-4 p.m. with a memorial service at 4 p.m.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 13th at 11 a.m.., at Brick & Blossom Event Center (formerly Staples Baptist Church) located at 10020 FM621, Staples, TX 78670, with graveside service following.
