Irene D. Riley passed away on October 26, 2021, at the age of 92. She was born on August 4, 1929, in Chapel Hill, Texas to Pete and Evan (Kaminski) Kenjura.
Irene and Robert Riley were married for 72 years. They spent most of their early married life in Premont, Texas where all the boys attended school. She was seamstress who created many cheerleader and twirler uniforms and ball gowns for the high school students. She even sewed most of her sons’ shirts and all her own dresses.
After her sons left home for college, work and/or military duty, Irene began working for the school district in the cafeteria. She worked her way up and became the food service director.
When Mr. Riley retired, they moved to San Marcos in 1985. Irene continued using her food service skills working as the food director at Wimberley ISD until she retired.
She continued her favorite hobby of sewing and made all her own dresses. She was also an avid gardener and had many beautiful flowers and plants to show.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Barbara Baker, Beanie Binford, and Fran Langen; her brother, Arthur Lee Kenjura; and her grandson, Jonathan Riley.
She is survived by her husband, Robert E. Riley, Sr.; sons, Bob Riley (Joan), Don Riley (Ann), and Alan Riley; brother, Ernest Kenjura (Peggy); sisters, Cecilia Fisk and Delores Sodermann (Bill); six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Visitation is Tuesday, November 2nd, 5-8 p.m., with Recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. at Pennington Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial is Wednesday, November 3rd, 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 624 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos, Texas. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Memorial Park in Martindale, Texas.
