San Marcos CISD board to consider COVID-19 vaccination stipend

The San Marcos Consolidated ISD Board of Trustees will consider giving a stipend to all district employees who are vaccinated against COVID-19.

The board will consider taking action to provide the stipend during Monday’s regular board meeting. The trustees will determine the possible amount given in the form of a one-time stipend during the meeting.

“Based on reasonable health and safety concerns related to the spreading of COVID-19, the board has determined that it is imperative that all employees of the district be inoculated with the COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible,” states the resolution the board will consider Monday. “The board has a substantial interest in protecting the health and safety of the district’s students, staff, and community, and finds that authorizing a one-time COVID-19 Vaccination Incentive Stipend to district employees who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, is necessary to address the board’s concerns and accomplish the district’s educational purpose.”

District employees who are eligible to receive the vaccine but cannot do so because of disability or religious beliefs will also be able to receive the stipend.

Employees who receive the one-time COVID-19 vaccination stipend and resign for health-related reasons will be expected to reimburse the district.

In other business, the trustees will consider adoption of a resolution to identify hazardous conditions within two miles of a school campus. This resolution is an annual item adopted by the trustees, which describes “the specific hazardous areas in which students reside who would otherwise be ineligible for transportation, but for whom the district shall provide transportation because of the hazardous conditions in those areas,” according to information in the board members’ agenda packet.

The board will also hear a presentation regarding redistricting and will consider forming a citizens advisory commission on single-member redistricting.

The trustees will discuss and take possible action to support SMCISD’s applications to the Hays County Parks and Open Space Grant Program.

The board will also consider any necessary budget amendments.

In closed session, the board will hold a discussion regarding administrative contracts for the 2021-22 school year and will take possible action in open session if necessary.

Monday’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. at San Marcos High School — 2601 Rattler Road — inside the Criminal Justice Classroom.
