Seton Medical Center Hays (SMCH) hosted a grand opening event last week to celebrate the first dedicated wellness and rehabilitation center in Hays County. The McCoy Wellness and Rehabilitation Center doubles the capacity of SMCH’s rehabilitation and therapy departments while offering innovative care close to home for Hays County residents.
The first-of-its-kind center was completely philanthropically funded by over 300 generous donors in Hays County. In addition to cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, the center offers physical, occupational and speech therapy.
“We are excited to open the new wellness and rehabilitation center at Seton Medical Center Hays, and for the opportunity that it brings for patients in this community,” said Dr. Vamsi Krishna, medical director of the Cardiac Cath laboratory and cardiac rehab at Seton Medical Center Hays. “As Hays County continues to grow at a rapid rate, we are proud to provide high-quality outpatient rehab services.”
Cardiac rehab is a medically supervised program designed to improve cardiovascular health after a heart attack, heart failure, angioplasty or heart surgery. Pulmonary rehabilitation is a program of education and exercise that helps manage patients with chronic respiratory diseases, by increasing stamina and decreasing breathlessness.
The center’s features include four classrooms for one-on-one treatments with therapists, a demonstration kitchen for nutrition education and cooking demos, locker rooms with showers, and comprehensive gym, including, but not limited to: Group exercise room with spin bikes, stair climber with incline and decline; recumbent bicycle and parallel bars.
“The McCoy Wellness and Rehabilitation Center is a state-of-the-art facility that allows Seton Medical Center Hays to expand our cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services,” said Salim Street, manager of cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services in Seton’s south market. “We were able to make our vision for the center a reality due to gifts from our generous donors.”
