Academy students inducted into NJHS

San Marcos Academy added 15 students to the National Junior Honor Society at an induction ceremony Feb. 27.

Inducted from the freshman class Jacey Cano, while eighth grade inductees were Lyndon Fischer, Joyce Njabi and Sunny Sun.

In the seventh grade, inductees were Gabby Barrientos, Nathaniel Blackstone, Sarah Britton, Mia Clay, Kellee Cummings, Emma Feigl, Braydon Hurst, Selah Portis, Temi Ogunyomade, Layton Schawe and Cherry Vasquez.

Officers for the organization are Mitchell Howard, president; Alden Epps, vice president; Catarina Vazquez, secretary; Daniel Abu Jaber, treasurer; and Grace Arzamendi, historian. Sponsors are Tamra Howe and Hannah Flowers.

Other members of the NJHS are Liam Adcock, Sofia Baer, Grace Barrett, Frankie Blair, Ella Burton, Zach Christensen, Gabby Cianciotto, Belle Cummings, Payton Helbig, Kayla King, Cole Krackau, Hudson Lee, Kayla Livingston, Tim Murphy, Shreya Patel, Austin Payne, Summer Schlanger, Ili Sommerlatte and Emmie Van de Walle.

The Sigma Mu Alpha chapter of the National Junior Honor Society at SMA was chartered in 1947. Students in grades 7-9 are eligible for membership and are selected based on the criteria of scholarship, leadership, service, character and citizenship.

Founded in 1907, San Marcos Academy is a private, Christian college preparatory school for grades K-12.
