For the second time in just over 24 hours, a San Marcos Police officer was assaulted in the line of duty.
An officer attempting to arrest a man wanted out of Guadalupe County early Thursday was slugged by 23-year-old Marshaun Anderson near the intersection of West Avenue and Uhland Road around 12:30 a.m..
According to an email from City Hall in response to a Daily Record request for information on the case, unspecified SMPD officers responded to the area of the 1500 block of Interstate 35 North at 12:22 a.m. “for a report of a suicidal subject who had departed a business.” En route, dispatch advised them about the active warrant for possession of marijuana.
When Anderson was located, police “told him to stop, but he refused to do so.”
When the officer then tried to place him under arrest by grabbing him by the arm and again telling him to stop, Anderson “became hostile toward the arresting officer and struck the officer with a closed fist,” also trying to bite him.
Anderson was finally taken into custody after a second SMPD officer and a Hays County deputy arrived to assist.
The city said the officer’s injuries “were minor and they did not need medical attention.”
Anderson, who is from Cibolo, remains jailed under bonds totaling $15,000. Assault on a peace officer is a second degree felony; resisting search/arrest is a Class A Misdemeanor.
At 2:14 a.m. Wednesday, two SMPD officers were hurt when a drunk driving suspect slammed into the rear of a patrol car they had just loaded a woman suspected of DWI into. Both were knocked to the ground and later treated and released from the emergency room at Central Texas Medical Center.
That case also resulted in the second-degree felony charges of assault on a peace officer for 21-year-old Zachary Adams of Canyon Lake. He also remains jailed.
