2 SMPD officers hurt in traffic stop crash

2 SMPD officers hurt in traffic stop crash

Two San Marcos Police officers have been released from Central Texas Medical Center after being treated for injuries they received during an early morning downtown traffic stop Wednesday.

City Hall said in a press release that it all began to unfold when officers pulled over a vehicle in the 100 block of East Hopkins at 2:14 a.m. The stop resulted in the arrest of 24-year-old Breanna Kilgore of San Marcos for driving while intoxicated.

Less than 10 minutes later, as Kilore sat handcuffed in the back seat of a patrol car, another car crashed into its back as both officers were standing near the rear passenger side door. “The impact knocked both officers to the ground,” the press release said.

The driver of that car, 21-year-old Zachary Adams of Canyon Lake, was subsequently arrested for intoxication assault on a peace officer, which is a first-degree felony.

Both had prior alcohol-related arrests. Adams has two prior arrests for DWI — one, by the SMPD, in September 2016 and one by the Hays County Sheriff’s Office just last month. He also had also been behind bars twice for being a minor in possession of alcohol, and in January of this year, was charged with family violence.

Kilgore, who was released on a $2,500 bond, was arrested by the SMPD in September 2017.
