Two SMPD officers injured during traffic stop

Two individuals have been arrested on intoxication-related charges early this morning in downtown San Marcos after a routine traffic stop ended in an auto-pedestrian crash involving two members of the San Marcos Police Department.

At approximately 2:14 a.m. Wednesday, officers conducted a traffic stop at the 100 block of E. Hopkins which resulted in the arrest of Breanna Kilgore, 24, for a charge of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI).

At approximately 2:33 a.m., after officers had seat belted Kilgore in the back seat of a patrol car, a second vehicle crashed into the rear of the car while the officers were standing near the rear passenger side door.  The impact knocked both officers to the ground.

Both SMPD officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries and have been treated and released.  Kilgore was uninjured.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the patrol car, Zachary Adams, 21, was subsequently arrested for intoxication assault on a peace officer.

Kilgore was released on a $2,500 bond. Adams is being held at Hays County Jail, and at the time of this press notice has not been before a judge to set bond.
