Kiwanis stack up 80 years

Kiwanis stack up 80 years

The smell of pancakes filled the air last Thursday at the San Marcos Activity Center for the San Marcos Kiwanis Club’s 80th annual Pancake Day and Silent Auction fundraiser. In the kitchen Francis Mendez uses a spatula to scoop more pancake mixture into a bowl while Lon R. Shell holds the mixing bowl as they work to keep the pancake makers supplied with batter. In the main room, an assembly line of Kiwanis volunteers help hungry guests get their choice of  pancakes and sausage. Proceeds from the event and silent auction go back to supporting the San Marcos community.

The Kiwanis take their pancakes very seriously and so Gary Nelson periodically checks each griddle’s temperature with an infrared thermometer to insure each is at the best temperature for perfect pancakes.
