Sonja Kaye Truan, loving Wife and Mother passed away peacefully at home in San Marcos, Texas on Saturday, February 13th, 2021 at the age of 58. She was surrounded by her loving family and pets.

Sonja was born on October 16th, 1962 in Rolla, Missouri to Glenn and Margaret Truan. She proudly raised one son, Justin Ray Glosson who was her pride and joy.

Sonja was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. Someone said that “Sonja was so outspoken, if she didn’t like something you were sure to know it and at the same time she was the sweetest, prettiest, nicest person.” All who knew her can attest that you always knew where you stood with her.

Sonja was a passionate advocate for the health and safety of domestic pets. She fostered hundreds of kittens for non-profit organizations in Central Texas and served as the lead organizer for a trap, neuter, and release program in San Marcos for some time. She was so passionate and cared so much for the animals she was involved with that she would home any that could not be rehomed. Sonja spent many hours building and making homes for stray animals, feeding feral cat colonies, rescuing lost pets and nursing orphans into maturity. When she was not caring for pets, she was busy around her house sewing or doing crochet or making blankets. She was never idle and was passionate about everything she did.

During her life Sonja overcame many adversities. At the age of 21 she had a major stroke that paralyzed most of the right side of her body. She was right-handed at the time and overcame all obstacles and persevered so well that most people never knew she was disabled. In 2018 Sonja was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After successful chemotherapy treatment, the cancer went into remission. In 2020, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and continued treatment until shortly before her passing. Throughout the journey, she often reassured those nearest to her that she would never give up.

She is preceded in death by her Father, Glenn, Mother, Margaret, and older Brother, Lansing. She is survived by her husband, Brad, son, Justin, eldest brother, Terrance, loving friends Martha and Tina, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Sonja will be cremated and returned to the earth as she requested. If you would like to make a contribution in Sonja’s name, she asked that you find a foster cat program, no-kill shelter or a pet rescue and make a donation of time or money.
