Broadway in Austin announces updates to its upcoming season

Texas Performing Arts announces Broadway in Austin season updates, including new dates for five previously scheduled Austin premieres, the addition of The Lion King, and the return of Hamilton. Wicked, previously scheduled for April 19-May 9, 2021, could not be rescheduled and will return in a future season. To Kill A Mockingbird, originally scheduled for Feb. 9-14, 2021, could not be rescheduled into the current season but will make its Austin premiere in a future season.

Texas Performing Arts announces Broadway in Austin season updates, including new dates for five previously scheduled Austin premieres, the addition of The Lion King, and the return of Hamilton. Wicked, previously scheduled for April 19-May 9, 2021, could not be rescheduled and will return in a future season. “We sincerely thank our subscribers for their patience” said Bob Bursey, Executive Director of Texas Performing Arts. “With the addition of Hamilton and The Lion King and new dates for five productions making their Austin debuts, it will be worth the wait! We can’t wait to welcome Broadway in Austin audiences back in December.”

Broadway in Austin presented by Texas Performing Arts will feature seven productions from December 2021 to August 2022 at Bass Concert Hall. The sixshow package and season add-on to make it a sevenshow package include:

Jan. 11-16, 2022

Tootsie

Feb. 22-27, 2022

Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

March 22-27, 2022

Disney’s The Lion King (Newly-added)

April 7 - 24, 2022

Summer: The Donna Summer Musical

May 3-8, 2022

Mean Girls

Aug. 2-7, 2022

Texas Performing Arts is committed to welcoming audiences back to Bass Concert Hall with health and safety as the top priority. Modifications have already been made throughout the venue, including upgraded air filtration and the addition of sanitization stations. Additional health and safety plans will be communicated to audience members well in advance of their first performance.

During the pandemic, Texas Performing Arts has continued to make the performing arts available to the community and to support artists. Through outdoor events and artistin-residence productions, TPA has developed and implemented health plans in accordance with University, State and Federal guidelines. TPA will continue to work closely with health authorities to update our plans in response to changing conditions as it works toward welcoming audiences back for Broadway in Austin.

If additional schedule changes are required or a performance this season must be canceled at any time for any reason. Ticket holders can be assured that their ticket value is safe. Ticket holders will continue to have the option to receive a credit, refund, or to be able to donate the value of their tickets.
