Texas State releases 2019 schedule, Bobcats faced with road-heavy November

Texas State begins the Jake Spavital era with a home heavy first half of the 2019 season and closes the season with two road games. 

The Sun Belt conference released its full 2019 schedule on Friday. The Bobcats begin conference play on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they host Georgia State. Texas State plays one lone weekday game against Louisiana-Monroe on Thursday, Oct. 10 inside Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats finish the league slate with four out of the last six games on the road. 

 “The Sun Belt Conference is a competitive league with great games each week and this season will be no different,” head coach Jake Spavital said. “We are looking forward to kicking off the season without having to leave the state until late October. This schedule allows us to compete at a high level and push our program forward to hopefully achieve our season goals, which include a postseason game."

Texas State’s season begins on the road against Texas A&M at Kyle Field on Saturday, Aug. 31 in College Station. The Aggies hold a 2-0 all-time record over the Bobcats with the last win coming in 2005 in 44-31 fashion. 

Texas State plays its home opener on Sept. 7 vs. Wyoming. The Cowboys have a slight 2-1 advantage over their opponent. Wyoming won the last meeting 45-10 in 2017. 

The Bobcats travel to Dallas to take on SMU on Sept. 14. This will be the first matchup between the two teams since 2008. Texas State lost its lone game against the Mustangs, 47-36. 

Sun Belt competition begins the following week against Georgia State. Texas State won 2018’s matchup in 40-31 fashion. 

The Bobcats play their final non-conference game on Sept. 28. when Nicholls State comes to San Marcos. 

Texas State has a light October slate with only two games on the schedule. The Bobcats take on ULM on Thursday, Oct, 10. Texas State has dropped three straight games to the Warhawks. ULM won 2018’s game, 20-14. The Bobcats close out October on the road against Arkansas State on Oct. 26. The Red Wolves claimed 2018’s game, 33-7. 

Texas State begins November in Lafayette, La. The Bobcats take on Louisiana on Nov. 2. The Ragin’ Cajuns have won all five games in this series. 

Texas State returns to San Marcos for its final two home games. The Bobcats take on South Alabama on Nov. 9 and will host Troy on Nov. 16 in their last home game in 2019. 

Texas State closes out the regular-season schedule on the road against Appalachian State on Nov. 23 and Coastal Carolina on Nov. 30. 

The Bobcats begin spring practice on Saturday and hold their annual Maroon & Gold Spring Game on Saturday, April 13 at Bobcat Stadium.
