San Marcos police are searching for a suspect in a gas station robbery.
SMPD said officers responded to the report of an aggravated robbery at Sunoco — 1200 State Highway 80 — at approximately 12:29 a.m. on Sunday. Police said an unidentified suspect entered the Sunoco gas station wielding what was described as a stainless-steel lug wrench, jumped over the cashier counter and ordered the clerk to open the cash register. The suspect proceeded to steal cash from the register and jumped back over the counter, SMPD said.
Officials stated that a second clerk walked toward the counter from the back of the store after the suspect had already taken money from the register. Police said the suspect saw the clerk and approached him wielding the lug wrench in a “threatening manner.” The suspect left the gas station without hitting either employee with the lug wrench, SMPD said.
According to video surveillance, the suspect is a black male in his early 20s, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8. Officials said the suspect was wearing a black hoodie, gray beanie, blue colored COVID-style medical facemask, gray pants and black shoes with white laces and white soles.
Police said the suspect arrived and left the Sunoco parking lot on foot. He fled on foot southbound along River Road toward Bugg Lane, according to SMPD.
Officials said the suspect has not been found and the investigation is ongoing. SMPD is asking anyone with information regarding the aggravated robbery to contact Detective Davidson at 512-753-2315 or [email protected].
