College Football: Ryan Melton, Lumi Kaba are Bobcats' lone selections to preseason all-Sun Belt teams

At the conclusion of spring drills, Ryan Melton earned the praise of head coach Everett Withers, one of the few Texas State players who could say as much.

Withers also commended quarterback Tyler Jones, safety Frankie Griffin, nose tackle Dallas McClarty and safety Stephan Johnson for having noteworthy spring camps.

Perhaps the voters for the Sun Belt's preseason teams, which includes select media members and every head football coach in the conference, were paying attention to Withers' words — at least where Melton was concerned.

The league's 10 other head coaches don't think very highly of Texas State.

Even head coach Everett Withers has been frank about the state of the program with his inaugural season in San Marcos around the corner.

"We're not good enough to win a game," Withers said at the conclusion of spring drills back in April.

College Football: Texas State officially adds Douglas, George to its staff

By JOE VOZZELLI

It’s official: Texas State confirmed last week’s news that Troy Douglas was making the three-hour drive southwest to San Marcos — with one caveat.

Douglas, who had been an assistant at Sam Houston State since February, will actually serve as the Bobcats’ safeties coach in 2016. At first, it was believed that Douglas would guide Texas State’s linebacking corps, the vacancy that was left when John Wiley resigned from that post last week, citing “personal/ family reasons.”
