Texas State sophomore guard Toshua Leavitt won’t take full credit for her performance during the Bobcats’ 63-50 win over UL Monroe on Thursday.

Leavitt, who swished five 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 19 points, was quick to give her teammates praise for putting her in a position to succeed against the Warhawks.

Time for Texas State (9-6, 2-1 in the Sun Belt) to show Saturday wasn’t a fluke.

After his team’s upset over UT Arlington, senior guard Bobby Conley said he didn’t want the victory to be the highlight of their season. It was a win worth celebrating, but only in terms of what it could set up down the road. The Bobcats hope to view it as a means to an end.

Texas State doesn’t plan on listening to preseason projections any time soon.

The Bobcats captured their first regular season victory over UT Arlington since 2011 during Saturday night’s 81-73 win in a match-up featuring the teams predicted to finish first and last in the Sun Belt Conference.

After hearing about UT Arlington’s Erick Neal and Kevin Hervey all week, Texas State’s seniors just wanted to get to Saturday.

Women's College Basketball: VanDijk, UT Arlington too much for Bobcats

NICK CASTILLO
Daily Record Sports

Texas State’s game against UT Arlington played out like a broken record.

The Lady Mavericks (10-3, 3-0 Sun Belt) fed junior center Rebekah VanDijk and the Bobcats (6-8, 1-2) had no answer for her presence inside the paint. VanDijk, who averages 16.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, put together a 30 point and 14 rebound performance to lead UTA to a 61-39 win over Texas State.
