College Softball: Texas State looks to bounce back at Troy

It hasn’t been an easy month for Texas State.

All of that, however, could be forgotten with a strong finish to the regular season. The Bobcats’ final two Sun Belt series are against the bottom two teams in the conference. Ricci Woodard’s team starts that stretch at Troy this weekend. Then, Texas State will take a week off before it faces UT Arlington inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.

San Marcos head coach Cathy Stoughton congratulates Haley Wright after she scored a run during a game earlier this season.

High School Softball: San Marcos is ready for the Class 5A playoffs

There wasn’t much of a celebration when San Marcos won its first district title since 1999 two weeks ago. Haley Wright did carry Jenica Flores (who scored the winning run) to the post-game huddle and the Lady Rattlers posed for pictures, but that was about it.

San Marcos hopes to save its biggest celebration for May 31, which is the date of the Class 5A state final.

“It feels really good to win this, but I just want us to keep going further,” San Marcos senior shortstop Stephanie Marmolejo said. “It feels good to win, so I want to keep winning and go as far as we can.”

Texas State head coach Ty Harrington is handed a commemorative jersey from Texas State Director of Athletics Larry Teis during a post-game ceremony. Harrington earned his 500th career win Wednesday night when the Bobcats beat Baylor.

College Baseball: Texas State shuts out Baylor, gives Harrington a special win

Texas State head coach Ty Harrington always tells his players to focus on the present or as he says, “To live in the moment.”

Yet after the Bobcats beat Baylor 2-0 on Wednesday night and gave their head coach career win No. 500, Harrington couldn’t help but to talk about the past and about what brought him to that stage.

The Bobcats celebrate after Katie Doerre's solo home run in the third inning. Her seventh homer of the season came during Texas State's 15-6 loss to Texas Wednesday night.

College Softball: Short-lived joy for the Bobcats in loss to Texas

The winning formula for Texas State is simple.

When Rayn House is pitching well, the Bobcats have enough offense to beat just about anyone in the country.

Whenever House isn’t on her game, Texas State head coach Ricci Woodard is left with few choices: Leave House in or turn to the bullpen where Kaylee Garner and Ashley Wright haven’t instilled much confidence.

Such a quandary confronted Woodard in Wednesday night’s 15-6, six-inning loss to Texas inside Bobcat Softball Stadium.
