Texas State closes out Tennessee Classic with sweep over UT-Martin, to finish 2-1

Texas State closed out the Tennessee Classic with a 3-0 sweep of the UTMartin Skyhawks, as the Bobcats started the season with a 2-1 record.

In the season opener against Marist, the Bobcats rolled over the Red Foxes in a 3-0 sweep.

The first set was a furious back and forth, as both Texas State and Marist traded the lead.

After the Red Foxes cut the lead down to 16-15, the Bobcats responded with a 9-2 run to win the first set at 25-17.

In the second set, Texas State got off to a blistering start, leading Marist, 9-2, to open the set.

The Red Foxes failed to take control of the lead, as the Bobcats won the second set at 25-15.

Marist responded in the third set, as the Red Foxes jumped out in front at 6-4.

But the Bobcats fought back and responded with an 11-2 run, to take a commanding 15-8 lead.

The run was too much for the Red Foxes to overcome, as the Bobcats took their first win of the season at 3-0, winning the third at 25-17.

The Bobcats day wasn’t finished just yet, as Texas State played the Tennessee Volunteers in the Friday nightcap.

Texas State held their own against the Volunteers, as both teams traded the lead back and forth.

Following a Tennessee attacking error, the Bobcats held a 11-9 lead.

However, the Volunteers responded with a 7-0 run, to regain control of the set at 16-11.

Texas State was able to climb back into the set trailing only 18-21, but a 4-0 by Tennessee ended the first set at 25-18.

The Bobcats held an early 3-1 lead against Tennessee in the second set, but it was thwarted by a Volunteer 6-0 run.

The early run put the Volunteers out in front, as Tennessee failed to relinquish the lead en route to a 25-18 set.

Tennessee closed out the third set for the sweep, beating the Bobcats 2515 for a 3-0 sweep.

Closing out the Tennessee Classic, Texas State took on the UTMartin Skyhawks early Saturday.

The first set was another fierce back and forth between the Bobcats and Skyhawks, as both teams traded the lead.

With the game tied at 21-21, Texas State went on a 4-1 run to win the first set at 25-22.

In the second set, the Bobcats found themselves tied at 4-4, before Texas State went on a 8-1 run to take the lead at 12-5.

The Skyhawks responded with a 9-2 run, as the game was all tied up at 14-14.

Now tied at 15-15, the Bobcats went on a 5-1 run to take a 20-16 lead.

The run was enough for Texas State, as the Bobcats closed out the second at 25-19, to take a 2-0 set lead.

The Bobcats got off to a hot start as Texas State opened up the third set with a 9-2 lead.

Texas State continued their momentum as the lead was pushed out to 14-4.

UT-Martin failed to threaten the Bobcats’ lead, as Texas State won the third set at 25-17, en route to the 3-0 sweep.

Texas State returns to San Marcos this weekend for the Texas State Invitational Thursday and Saturday.
