Starting pitcher Jessica Mullins made history over the weekend as the senior threw a perfect game in the Bobcats 7-0 win against the UTEP Miners in the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic in Lubbock.

Mullins became the first Texas State pitcher to throw a perfect game since Brandi Rupp in 2018 against Coastal Carolina and the first Texas State pitcher to throw a seven-inning perfect game since Katie Garnett in 2008 against University of Missouri- Kansas City.

Mullins finished the game throwing the full seven innings while allowing no hits, no runs, no walks and striking out eight batters.

While Mullins dominated in the circle, the Texas State offense made a statement to the Miners that their last outing was not indicative of what the Bobcats were capable of.

After previously being shut out in their first outing against UTEP in a 8-0 loss last Friday, the Bobcats rebounded by pounding the Miners with seven runs.

First baseman J.J. Smith sent the message early in the second inning by blasting a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning to put the Bobcats up 2-0.

Texas State continued their damage in the third inning when third baseman Sara Vanderford smacked a double down the left field line to score Ciara Trahan and extend the lead at 3-0.

Right fielder Anna Jones followed up with her own double, hitting it into left center field to score Vanderford and put the Bobcats up 4-0.

Center fielder Piper Randolph completed the double trifecta with a double of her own to score Jones as the Bobcats took a commanding 5-0 lead.

Randolph was not through, however, as the senior smacked a tworun homer into left field to give the Bobcats a 7-0 en route to the win.

Texas State closed out the Memorial Classic with their second meeting against the New Mexico State Aggies.

After beating the Aggies 8-0 in their first meeting on Friday, the Bobcats continued the beat down as Texas State ruled New Mexico State 9-1 to finish the Classic with a 3-1 record.

The Bobcats return to Bobcat Softball Stadium this weekend for the first three series of the season against the Penn State Nittany Lions who come in with a 15-2 record.

First pitch for Texas State-Penn State is set for Thursday at 6 p.m.
