It’s put up or shut up time for Texas State Football

People love to talk.

Whether it be on Twitter, amongst friends, in the office workspace, or whatever it maybe people will talk a big game, especially when it comes down to college football.

“Texas is Back”, “This is the year Texas A&M finally breaks through”, “We are the next Bama dynasty,”– the list will go on and on.

Texas State is no different.

For years, all people can talk about is the sleeping giant that lays dormant within the waters of San Marcos, that is waiting to awaken. A giant that will propel Texas State into the next TCU, Houston or SMU.

Yet, despite the talk, that giant is still in hibernation.

Since jumping to FBS, Texas State has only two winning seasons, 2013 (66) and 2014 (7-6).

To add insult to injury, Texas State, despite being bowl eligible for both seasons, was not selected to play in a bowl game.

Since the departure of Head Coach Dennis Franchioine, Texas State has struck out on two head coaches, who both failed to pull the Bobcats out of the ditch of misery.

The talks of “#Partyinthe Endzone” or “We are going to win, we are going to win games, we are going to win championships, we are going to win bowls games,” all fell flat on their faces, as Texas State has gone a putrid 20-64 over the past seven seasons.

Though all the blame cannot be put upon both coaches, the previous administration at Texas State did themselves no favors by not fully supporting the athletics program as a whole, the problem still remains.

The Bobcats need wins.

But there was been a beacon of hope.

The work of both Athletic Director Don Coryell and President Kelly Damphousse, along with the work of the entire Texas State Athletics Department, has inserted new life into the program with construction scheduled to start in September.

New Head Coach G.J. Kinne has also breathed life into the struggling program with the new motto , “Take Back Texas.'

Texas State now has the best recruiting class in 2023, according to 247 Sports.

Everything is pointing in the right direction. All that is missing is the wins.

With the hype that has been swelling since the off-season, it’s time for Texas State to put their money where their mouth is.
