The Bobcats (27-191, 7-7-1 Sun Belt Conference) defeated the University of Louisiana Monroe Warhawks (2126, 4-12 SBC) on Friday at Bobcat Softball Stadium with a score of 3-2.

The win comes after five consecutive losses for Texas State.

TXST freshman catcher Karmyn Bass had a home run in the bottom of the third inning to give Texas State its first run of the game.

This was Bass’ third home run of the season and of her career as a Bobcat.

Texas State finished the inning with a 1-0 lead over ULM.

“One thing I like about this group is that they don’t mind working hard,” TXST Head Coach Ricci Woodard said. “Our goal is to win the Sun Belt year in and year out, and to do that we have to beat Louisiana. We have to prove we’re not the underdog.”

Texas State scored two more runs in the following inning after senior third baseman, Sara Vanderford, hit a single to left field and was able to tag up on a fly ball hit by freshman second baseman, Katarina Zarate, to score a run for the Bobcats.

The final Bobcat run came from junior right fielder, Anna Jones, who had a hit and was able to make it to second base due to an error by the Warhawks’ center fielder.

The Bobcats lead thegame 3-0 at the end of the fourth inning.

After five innings of nothing for ULM, the Warhawks were able to get on the board after hitting two RBI singles to the outfield.

With the two runs scored, ULM cut the Bobcats’ lead to only one run with a score of 3-2, which was the final score of the game after both teams were unable to score in the final two innings of the game.

“It’s cool to win but also [we] still have to work,” Vanderford said. “As a team we don’t have as many big bats so we have to be able to put ourselves in scoring position.”

The Bobcats were tocontinue the three game series in a doubleheader against ULM at time of press on Saturday, April 22 due to the potential for rain today.

Game one of the final two was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday with game two to follow directly after. The games were expected to be held at Bobcat Softball Stadium in San Marcos.
