High School Girls Soccer: San Marcos tops Copperas Cove in final tourney match

San Marcos breathed a sigh of relief Saturday morning.

Following two draws and a loss, the Lady Rattlers finished their host tournament with a 4-1 win over Copperas Cove to cap off a weekend that didn’t go as originally planned.

Junior forward Miranda Urbizu left the match before the end of the first half with an injury just before a corner kick attempt.

22 points from MacKenzie Saenz wasn’t enough to hold off the Lady Mustangs.

San Marcos (8-22, 0-3 in District 14-6A)  is still in search of its first district win after Friday night’s 57-53 loss to Manor. 

Entering the fourth quarter, San Marcos held a 44-43 lead thanks to a 9-point effort from its senior guard in the third period to hold off a Lady Mustang run that resulted in six forced turnovers.

High School Girls Soccer: Urbizu nets five in win over Bryan Rudder

Within the opening seconds, Bryan Rudder knew it was in for a long night.

Senior forward Miranda Urbizu scored five goals during the Lady Rattlers’ home opener against the Rangers Tuesday night inside San Marcos Toyota Rattler Stadium.

Urbizu’s first goal came within the first minute of the match.

High School Girls' Basketball: Akins, Lofton take over late

AUSTIN — Denae Lofton was tired of trading shots.
The junior guard quelled a late San Marcos (8-20, 0-1 in District 14-6A) rally in the final period and spearheaded an Akins run to hand the Lady Rattlers a 67-49 loss during their district opener Friday night.

Girls High School Basketball: San Marcos edges past SA McCollum in defensive battle

San Marcos survived a dog fight Tuesday night.

The Lady Rattlers held on to their 37-33 win against San Antonio McCollum after a late Cowboys rally nearly spoiled a game that was almost entirely won on defense for San Marcos (8-19).
