Eileen Hilbig Whitten

Eileen Hilbig Whitten, 63, a resident of Staples, entered into eternal peace on March 11, 2014. She spent a brave 13 year battle against the effects of Scleroderma. Eileen was the youngest of 10 children born to S.J. and Clara Kadura Hilbig. She was born in Austin on Sept. 18, 1950. She attended St. Ignatius Catholic School and Porter Junior High School. She graduated from William B. Travis High School in 1968. Eileen worked for the IRS, then as a nurse at Gary Job Corps and Texas  State University (formerly Southwest Texas State University) in San Marcos. On Feb. 4, 1982, she married Leo P. Whitten and moved to Staples. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Leo, her parents S.J. and Clara Hilbig, and her sister  Leatrice Jakubowsky. Eileen is survived by her siblings and their spouses: Marian Nelson and her husband Charlie of Austin, J.C. Hilbig of Lockhart, Laurell Skaggs and her husband Raleigh of Bastrop, Clara Klinkovsky and her husband Albert of Austin, Robert Hilbig and his wife Patricia of Austin, Stanley Hilbig and his wife  Joan of Austin, Glenn Hilbig of Austin and Terry Hilbig of Taylor. Aunt Eily  also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who cherish memories of  their beloved aunt. Special thanks to her devoted caregivers who so graciously and kindly cared for Eileen, especially Ramona Estrada, Ariana Cruz, Stephanie White and all the caregivers and staff at Angels for Elders of Wimberley, her nurse Patricia Olivio, her doctor Alan Lee, and her neighbors Keith Cudd, Peter  Pieneda and Carol Wester. Contributions can be made to the Scleroderma  or Alzheimer’s Foundations. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 15, at the Staples Cemetery.  Arrangements by Pennington Funeral Home, San Marcos, TX (512) 353- 4311, www.penningtonfuneralhome.com
