Recently, the Ashley Furniture Store, located at 850 Barnes Drive in the Stonecreek Crossing Shopping Center, opened with fanfare and activities. The new store takes on the old footprint of the former Bealls. Inside, store management extended an opportunity for other businesses to have pop up stands throughout. For new shoppers, there was also a DJ, and employees were handing out promotional cards and other grand opening items.
With school starting on Tuesday, Aug. 15, the San Marcos Consolidated ISD celebrated Diamond Line is well into its practice sessions in anticipation of a full year of events and competitions. The Diamond Line held a week-long Junior Dance Camp in June with performances to Princess and the Frog, Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 and I Love Rock ‘N Roll. Diamond Line steps into new year
ADHD is common in both the United States and Canada. The American Academy of Pediatrics reports that ADHD affects between 4 and 12 percent of school-aged children, while the Center for ADHD Awareness, Canada indicates between 5 and 7 percent of Canadian youngsters have the condition. Such figures are disconcerting, particularly when considering the adverse effects of ADHD on academic performance. In fact, a 2019 study published in the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry found that ADHD was associated with substantially lower performance in school independent of socioeconomic background factors.

As Summer programs reach a conclusion at the San Marcos Public Library, children had one more opportunity in late July to come up close and personal with members of the reptile world of creatures courtesy of the Austin Reptile Shows. The library will hold a Pop-up Book Sale today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lobby. The sale features cookbooks, teen fiction and graphic novels. Most items are between $2 - $5, but rare, vintage items are priced accordingly.
