Rotary packs school supplies for needy kids in San Marcos, Mexico
The Rotary Club of San Marcos bought school supplies for hundreds of needy children in Mexico and San Marcos and packaged them for distribution on Friday, Aug. 27. Rotary partnered with Mision de Candelilla in Fredericksburg to deliver school supplies to seven impoverished villages in Mexico. School supplies will also be donated to the Hays County Women’s Shelter and the Youth Services Bureau in San Marcos, for local children. Thirty-two volunteers help pack the supplies, including Rotarians from Kyle and Canyon Lake, and from the student Rotaract Club at Texas State.
Supply packing took place at First Christian Church in San Marcos. Lunch and a presentation by Kenny Johnson of Mision de Candelilla followed the work. Johnson shared stories about other Mision de Candelilla mission trips to Mexico.
Rotarians Ben Duncan and Sean Locker organized this service project for San Marcos Rotary, which has been doing this annual service project for many years. Rotary is a nonprofit, nonpolitical and nonreligious service organization that is celebrating its 100th anniversary on Dec. 1, 2021.
