KZSM — Sharing your personal magic

Sunday, August 30, 2020

For someone my age, the magic of radio means the lighted dial of a radio console glowing in a dark room. For someone born in this century, it might emanate from a set of Bluetooth headphones. Our KZSM. org radio hosts come from all ages and backgrounds, and each one uses the magic of radio to express and explore their personal passion. Their stories are both similar and different.

For Carole Klockenga Coburn, host of “Friday Night With Care” (Fridays 8-10 p.m.), radio offers a path to healing: “I love music. I love local artists. I love introducing our community to the amazing creatives that live, work and play amongst us. Outside the pandemic I give our listeners their own private house concert every Friday night.” She explains that “the story of how and why I came to the studio is a whole other ‘thing’ that healed me from two debilitating strokes that robbed me of my ability to read literature and write my stories with any kind of fluidity. The gig at the station brought joy into my life and continues to do so.”

Damian Entrican, host of “The Blitz” (Sundays 4-5 p.m.) expands on his favorite leisure activity: “I love sports. I love talking about sports, and I especially love arguing about sports. I argued enough at the bar, so I figured I’d take it to the airwaves.”

Mark Moniz, the host of “Metal Mark Live” (Thursdays 10 p.m.-midnight), combines his personal passion for heavy metal music with his love of our community. “I love my show because it makes me feel part of San Marcos, Texas. When I am downtown broadcasting it makes me feel important. Bringing back music that has been buried by corporate greed in the broadcasting industry and featuring musicians that would never see any airplay — that's what floats my boat!”

Each of the program hosts listed in the schedule below is inspired by their own passion, but all of us share a dedication to the San Marcos community and a love for the magic of radio.

Is there music you love or a subject you love to talk about? There is plenty of room on our schedule for new programs to expand the range of our offerings.
