KZSM – Community radio falling into fall
Coming into September, most of us begin to look forward to cooler weather, shorter days, long pants and eventually, maybe a sweater. On the other hand, your true community radio station wishes to make things sizzle just a bit longer. In our efforts to keep things hot and lively, two events immediately come to mind.
The fourth weekend in September offers many choices for events and entertainment. From Friday the 21st until Sunday the 23rd, KZSM and the Buzzmill will host the 78666 Triple Threat! Eighteen heavy metal bands on three consecutive nights will provide all the head-banging music one could hope for in a short period of time. This event will be a fundraiser to benefit KZSM and the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center. There is a possibility that if enough money is raised, the station manager could be enticed to jump into the mosh pit! Let’s see if we can make this happen!
In October, we will gather once again at Wake the Dead Coffee House for our annual Fall Fundraiser, Details are still being worked out, but the goal is to make it even bigger and better than previous years. Also, in October, in the Kissing Alley we will host a costume contest during our monthly Kissing Alley Concert. Prizes will be awarded and there will be a nominal entry fee. So, dig deep in those closets and be as creative as you dare, just remember that this is a family-friendly event and public decency standards will be adhered to.
If you would like to share your ideas for fundraising events, program ideas or if you would like to find out how you can support your true community radio station, please join us at our next volunteer staff meeting on Wednesday Sept. 19 at Wake the Dead Coffee House. The meeting begins at 7:30 and will last until 9 p.m.
You can also stop by our booth on Saturdays at the Farmer’s Market and say hello and pick up a copy of our program schedule. Our staff members will be happy to answer any questions you may have about becoming a part of your community radio family.
Don’t forget to put your Mermaid on! Our radio hosts will be the parade announcers for this year’s Mermaid Promenade on Saturday, the 22nd of September. Come and join the fun!
