City tax allocations down for the month, up for year

San Marcos’ economy took a bit of a hit for April with less overall sales for 2023 compared to April of last year, but that loss is mitigated by the booming year to date numbers.

The city has received over a million and half dollars more for 2023 year to date compared to 2022.

The sales tax rate allocation given by the Office of the State Comptroller for the city of San Marcos is 1.5%.

The sales tax allocation for June, representing sales made in April in San Marcos, has gone down .29% compared to the same month last year.

The amount allocated to the city for sales made in April is $3,021,376, down from $3,030,338 for the same period in the previous year.

The amount of allocations for the entire year to date is up 8.23% from last year.

In the first five months of 2023, the city has received a total of $19,741,157 in allocations, and year to date for 2022 was $18,238,716.

The total tax allocations for all of 2022 was $38,016,330.75.

The tax rate allocation for unincorporated Hays County is 0.5%. The allocation for June, representing sales made in April for the county, is $2,490,209.45, which is up .34% from last year in the same period when it received $2,481,553.07. The payment to the county year to date is $15,735,726, which is up 4.84% from last year.

In 2022, Hays County received $15,008,047 for the year by this time.

Five of the cities in Hays County are down from last year for this tax allocation period and two of the cities are down year to date compared to 2022.

Those down for this tax allocation period are San Marcos, Dripping Springs, Hays, Mountain City and Uhland. The two that are down for the year to date compared to last year are Hays City and Uhland.

The rest of the cities in the county have seen increases from last year in tax allocations compensation for both this time period and for the year to date.

Here’s how the rest of the county’s municipalities fared: Buda: Monthly allocation is $1,018,592, up 15.84%. Year to date total is $6,337,890, up 9.26%.

Dripping Springs: Monthly allocation is $368,621, down .71%. Year to date total is $2,236,890, up 7.21%.

Hays City: Monthly allocation is $1,186, down 19.31%. Year to date total is $12,239, down 6.04%.

Kyle: Monthly allocation is $1,320,473, up 8.79%. Year to date total is $8,047,035, up 10.37%.

Mountain City: Monthly allocation is $1,867, down 15.15%. Year to date total is $14,951, up 16.52%.

Niederwald: Monthly allocation is $10,620, up 33.24%. Year to date total is $55,536, up 31.09%.

Uhland: Monthly allocation is $42,965, down 48.47%. Year to date total is $289,504, down 28.74%.

Wimberley: Monthly allocation is $118,933, up 7.52%. Year to date total is $742,867, up 5.77%.

Woodcreek: Monthly allocation is $7,106, up .78%. Year to date total is $54,494, up 20.16%.

Buda, Kyle, Uhland and San Marcos have a sales tax rate of 1.5%. The sales tax rate in Dripping Springs is 1.25% and it is 1% in Hays City, Mountain City, Niederwald, Wimberley and Woodcreek.
