Ascension Seton Hays announced the opening of a fourth cardiac catheterization lab (cath lab), increasing cardiovascular services available at the hospital. The investment also includes electrophysiology (EP) capabilities, which features equipment and resources to diagnose and treat heart rhythm problems, such as atrial fibrillation ablations. A cath lab is an examination room with diagnostic imaging equipment used to visualize the arteries and the chambers of the heart and treat any stenosis or abnormality found.

'This state-of-the-art equipment augments our ability to diagnose and treat a wide range of cardiovascular diseases. Adding EP capabilities, alongside our skilled interventional cardiologists and heart surgery program is a true asset to the community,' said Dr. Josh Pozos, chief medical officer of Ascension Seton Hays.

Dr. Josh Davis and Dr. Kris Heinzman, cardiologists specializing in electrophysiology at Ascension Texas Cardiovascular, performed the first case in the new lab.

Dr. Kristopher Heinzman, electrophysiologist with Ascension Texas Cardiovascular, and Dr. Josh Davis, electrophysiology fellow, performed the first case in the new lab.

'Previously, patients would have to travel out of the community to receive this level of care,” Dr. Davis said. “The new cath lab with EP capabilities will allow us to expand high quality cardiovascular services at Ascension Seton Hays, and better serve the entire region. I look forward to further elevating heart care alongside our other Ascension Texas Cardiovascular clinicians.'

Ascension Seton Hays is certified as a level II trauma center and as a primary stroke center. The campus is a destination for specialty care including heart and vascular health, and is certified as a Primary Heart Attack Center (PHAC) through The Joint Commission. Additionally, Ascension Seton Hays has been awarded the Silver Plus Level Performance Award from the American Heart Association – Get with the Guidelines Program for providing advanced stroke care.
