Texas retail gas prices down 1¢ before holiday weekend

COPPELL, Texas (AP) — Retail gasoline prices in Texas and across the country have moved in opposite directions leading into the Labor Day holiday weekend.

AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price at the pump statewide was down a penny to settle at an average $2.60 per gallon. Drivers across the U.S. are paying a penny more this week at an average $2.84 per gallon.

The association survey found Midland has the most expensive gasoline in Texas this week at an average $3.06 per gallon. The cheapest gasoline statewide was in Wichita Falls at an average $2.51 per gallon.

AAA experts say gasoline prices in the South and Southeast parts of the U.S. have declined.

In San Marcos, the lowest priced gas in town on Thursday was $2.31 a gallon at the “big” H-E-B, according to gasbuddy.com.

San Marcos’ most expensive gas was $2.69 at the Exxon at 339 N. Guadalupe Street. 

The town’s average price was $2.58.
