Another layer of intergovernmental cooperation appears to be on the horizon.

Mayor John Thomaides of San Marcos, Mayor Steve Adler of Austin, Mayor Ron Nirenberg of San Antonio and their counterparts from other cities on the Interstate 35 corridor from San Antonio to Georgetown will announce the formation of the Central Texas Corridor Mayors Coalition at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Austin City Hall News Room, 301 W. 2nd St., Austin.

The press conference will announce the coalition and its intention of holding its first official meeting before the end of the year. Each mayor will have the opportunity to provide a short statement.

“The Central Texas Corridor Mayors Coalition will serve as the vehicle to foster and promote regional communication, coordination, and cooperation,” Thomaides said.  “I’m excited to begin working collaboratively with the leadership of these great cities.”

This non-partisan coalition – on a united front – will provide the opportunity to open a productive and respectful dialogue with leaders in the Texas Legislature, the media, and constituents in order to advance the goals of our cities, as well as our region as a whole, the city of San Marcos said in a news release.
