Couple marks 60 years

Jesse and Connie Torres residents of Austin, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Dec. 30, 2016.
They were married in San Marcos in the old St. John’s the evangelist Catholic church. For these 60 years they committed themselves to God, each other, family and friends.
They are the parents of four wonderful children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. For this celebration, they are planning a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. May the Good Lord continue to bless them from above with many more years of joy, health and happiness.

District considers May bond election

The San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees is working towards a May bond election. The board will likely call for that election at a special meeting in early February. How large the bond will be, what it will cover and potential tax implications are still being determined.

Wilson Molinares, the former Texas State University student who killed four people in traffic last year, was released from the Hays County Jail Jan. 5 and transferred to the Holliday Unit at Huntsville.

Molinares, who was charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter, entered into a plea bargain agreement with the Hays County District Attorney’s Office and was sentenced to 40 years behind bars Dec. 15.

Water conference will focus on innovations

AUSTIN  – Water for Texas 2017, a conference hosted by the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB), will bring together industry professionals, public figures, students, and others with an interest in Texas water for in-depth discussions and learning opportunities. The conference will be held Jan. 23–25, at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center in Austin.
