Family dog kills infant girl

San Marcos animal control officers have impounded a family dog investigators say killed a baby in her home Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, at approximately 1:30 p.m., EMS and SMPD officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Sagewood for a report of a 2-month-old who was unresponsive and had suffered numerous animal bites. The child was transported to Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos. She was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Maggie Moreno at 2:08 p.m.

New fire station’s cost: $6 million

Construction is set to begin on a new Fire Station #4. When completed, the fire department will leave its current station on Broadway for a new Wonder World Drive location near Central Texas Medical Center.

H-E-B investing $100 million in Texas public education

A major investment in public education was announced by H-E-B in Austin on Tuesday.
H-E-B Chairman and CEO Charles Butt told a press conference the grocery giant will spend more than $100 million to create The Holdsworth Center, a premier leadership institute based in Austin with the goal of supporting and developing public school leaders in order to improve, over time, the quality of education offered to every child in every classroom in Texas.
