The Journey Continues: 'Lay the issue at the cross'

Sunday, May 3, 2020

My Journey this week takes me to the coronavirus pandemic and the importance of caring for each other in times of duress.

Like many others, I am experiencing the isolation and the need for human contact caused by COVID-19. But we all need to practice the social act of visiting by using the internet or telephone.

Most importantly, follow:

“Cast all your anxiousness on Him because He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

Listen to and follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit for ministry opportunities. If you feel overwhelmed, “lay it at the cross” and seek the Holy Spirit. Because in times of trouble, there stands the Lord.

“Be sincere in your love for others. Hate everything that is evil and hold tight to everything that is good. Love each other as brothers and sisters and honor others more than you do yourself. Never give up. Eagerly follow the Holy Spirit and serve the Lord. Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying.” Romans 12:9-12

There is something to these words “lay the issue at the cross and follow the Holy Spirit.” The Holy Spirit is a very real part of God. I listen to him and I’ll share what happened to me as testimony that “He cares for you.”

Years ago, the Holy Spirit revealed to me when I was exiting the Baptist Book Store on Loop 410 in San Antonio. "On your return trip to San Marcos, you are going to have a traffic wreck,” it said. I responded by driving across the parking lot, stopped and waited five minutes because I thought this would break the timing for a wreck.

Continuing the trip home; I was careful with my speed and following distances. As I reached Exit 200 on Interstate 35, traffic began to slow due to road construction. Cars were being channeled with plastic traffic cones. Because one cone had blown over into the roadway path, the car in front of me abruptly stopped. I stopped safely. Looking into my rearview mirror, I saw that the car behind me due to speed could not stop and I braced myself. The car tailgated me. Fortunately, my car received minimum damage and ever since, I've had renewed appreciation for the Holy Spirit.”
