Women's College Soccer: Bobcats to open season on road
Texas State gets the 2013 season underway with a pair of matches against old Southland Conference opponents this weekend in Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin.
First game for the Bobcats is tonight against the Demons, while Sunday’s match caps the two-game road swing. Opening kick for Texas State’s game with Northwestern State is scheduled for 7 p.m.
“I’d say its familiar, but they both have new coaches and new players,” Texas State head coach Kat Conner said. “So in a way, it is familiar towns, but it’s not familiar of the coaches. It’s going to be interesting and it’s going to be new, but the town will be the same.”
Through seven meetings with the Demons, the Bobcats are 6-0-1. Texas State is unbeaten in Natchitoches, La., posting a record of 2-0-1, including a 2-0 win two years ago.
Plus, the Bobcats captured the 2011 Southland Conference Tournament championship on Northwestern State’s field. Texas State beat Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin during its championship run.
On Sunday, the Bobcats will get a rematch of the 2011 SLC Tournament title game in which they beat the Lady Jacks. Each of the last six matches for Texas State and SFA were decided by a score of 1-0.
“It’ll be tough, but it’ll also be a good growing game for us,” Conner said of the upcoming match against the Lady Jacks.
