Women's College Golf: Bobcats 15th in Ala.
AUBURN, Ala. — Texas State opened play Thursday morning in the first round of the NCAA East Regional, hosted by Auburn University. Teams play a total of 54 holes in the tournament and the Bobcats just wrapped up the first 18.
Even though it didn’t go as well at Texas State hoped, but Mike Akers’ team is currently in 15th place — just nine shots back of eighth place, which is needed to advance to the NCAA Championship.
“We weren't sharp today but we are in a good position,” Akers said. “Our goal was to shoot our average score. We need to improve each day. We tee early tomorrow, so we need to take advantage of cooler weather and smooth greens.”
Senior standout Krista Puisite led the Bobcats in the first day. Puisite, who is the nation’s leader in birdies coming into the tournament, birdied No. 14 and No. 15 to get back to even-par on the day and finished with a 72.
Friday’s second round began at 7:30 a.m. for the Bobcats. Texas State will again be paired with Central Florida and the host school Auburn.
